Children from the Copperas Cove Boys & Girls Club proudly held up a large “thank you” banner with their signatures in front of Bealls last week in a display of gratitude for the $1,809 check Bealls donated to the club.

The donation was part of the store’s “Thirty Days of Giving” community program, said Renee Mastro, store manager.

“Generous customers were asked to donate money when making their purchases during the month of March,” Mastro said. “A portion of the donation was given by the Bealls’ staff.”

‘Thirty days of giving’

As part of “Thirty Days of Giving,” Bealls stores selected local organizations to receive donations, so Mastro selected the Copperas Cove Boys & Girls Club.

“The Boys & Girls club is a wonderful organization in Copperas Cove,” Mastro said. “The children are the most important part of the community. They are the future. (The donation) is our way of giving back. It is our gift to them.”

The large check was presented to the club by Mastro, Assistant Manager Ngoc Bartch and District Manager Mark Pustka on May 8, the day before the children presented their banner to the store.

Boys & Girls Club Branch Director Bobby Krei and board members Sandhor Vegh and Pat Thomas received the check on behalf of the club.

Krei was grateful to Mastro for selecting the club.

“When Renee was asked to pick a local organization to donate, she immediately thought of the Boys & Girls Club,” Krei said. “When she gave the check to the Boys & Girls Club she also gave the parents some percentage off coupons.”

He was most thankful the money came during this time of the year.

“We will be going into the summer and will almost double the kids we have, so the money will probably be used to purchase more arts and crafts (supplies),” Krei said.

Children wanting to join the Boys & Girls Club must be 6 years old or older. A membership fee of $25 per child is required, and parents must complete an application form.
