Tanya Dwyer, 28, is a first grade teacher at Williams Ledger Elementary in Copperas Cove.
How long have you been teaching?
I have been teaching for 14 years total. I have taught at Ledger for four years, and then I left to help open the new school called House Creek. I taught at House Creek for two years and then I returned back to Ledger this school year to teach first grade. I really enjoy my job. I know how special this job is. I enjoy sharing my information with students and the teachers; I think we work best when we work together.
Tell me about your family.
I am an Army wife. I have been married to Dwayne Dwyer for 14 years. My husband and I have two girls ages 20 and 12, and we have a 8-year-old boy. Our children have attended school in Copperas Cove and they all enjoy it. I am from Sumter, S.C.
What community organizations do you participate in?
I do projects with my church. I am a part of the worship team at church. We attend Destiny World Outreach Center in Killeen. I share beyond our school with other teachers across the state/world through my blog. I collaborate and share teaching ideas. I share the quirks and perks that work for us as teachers.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
The best advice that I was ever given was to be myself and to not be afraid to give the best of myself to others. I got this great advice from my dad.
What is your favorite room in your home?
My favorite room in my home is my living room, because it has my comfy couch. The living room is a big family room where everybody can meet and spend time together.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
The chore that I hate doing is grocery shopping because I really don’t like to cook. I cook out of necessity so I really don’t like to go grocery shopping.
If you could chose anyone whom would you choose to be your mentor?
I would choose my dad to be my mentor, because he is very open and very straight forward. My dad has a big heart.
When you have 30 minutes of free time what do you do?
I take a nap when I have free time. Between working with kids all day and then coming home to my own kids, that free 30 minutes comes very few and far between.
If you could witness any event past, future, or present what would it be?
The inauguration of President Barrack Obama, because it was the first time that an African American man had been elected president.
