Chi Chi Butler opened the original Burger King in Copperas Cove in 1979.

As general manager, Butler officially reopened the new Burger King on Feb. 28.

She addressed the assembled crowd. “We thank you for showing us love and support.”

The restaurant has been open since Feb. 12, but the Chamber of Commerce and Ampler Burgers LLC, the owner of the new Burger King, wanted to celebrate in a big way.

In addition to a ribbon-cutting, the Copperas Cove Junior High cheerleaders and the Starlettes dance troupe from CCJH performed.

Inside the store, some of the Starlettes stopped to have their faces painted, while younger children watched balloons being shaped into animals.

Customers were offered free ice cream cones and a chance to win a flat screen television as part of the festivities.

Chamber ambassador Joe DeCroce attended the ceremony.

“Events like this are a chance to see other people from across the community,” he said.

The store has hired over 45 employees, most of them part time, according to Matt Bars, Ampler director of operations.

The restaurant is open from 5:30 a.m. to midnight Monday to Thursday; from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday to Saturday; and from 7 a.m. to midnight Sunday.

The dining room closes at 10 every night.
