More than 75 people came out Saturday to support a motorcycle club with a big heart.
TRACKS (Togetherness Reveals a Club Knowing Strength) Rydaz of Killeen held a car wash fundraiser for Cove House at Buddy’s Home Furnishings in Copperas Cove.
President and founding member Larry Smith was excited about the turnout.
“This is clearly one of the things that we do to give back,” he said.
“Just because we are a motorcycle club, we are not the stigma of what many think of us. We are all about our community.”
Donna Gatlin of Lampasas was driving by, saw the car wash and decided to pull in.
“I drove by and saw the signs,” Gatlin said. “To be honest, I’ve never heard of or even seen a group of bikers giving back. I’ve just seen them on the road.”
Longtime club member Robert “Yella Boi” Harden of Copperas Cove said the club “is all about giving to the community.”
“We do not want people to think this is all what motorcycle clubs are all about — the stereotype of being a rowdy bunch on motorcycles and fast cars,” Harden said. “We live here, we raised our kids here. We are just a group of motorcycle enthusiasts that care about their community.”
Smith said they chose Cove House as the main benefactor because of the help it once gave a club member. Saturday’s event brought in more than 200 pounds of food and clothing for Cove House.
