The city of Copperas Cove is about to be beautified, literally.
From now until the end of May, the city will join other communities across the nation in the Great American Cleanup, which is aimed at giving neighborhoods and city streets a facelift.
The campaign will begin with City Park.
“The park’s beautification is our first scheduled event for the Keep America Beautiful, Great American Cleanup event,” said Silvia Rhoads, executive director of Keep Coppers Cove Beautiful. “(It) will consist of mainly picking up litter from all areas of the park including the pond and creek.”
The park cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the pond in City Park on West Avenue B.
Rhoads said the more volunteers show up, the more areas of the park can be cleaned.
Coffee and donuts will be served and no prior sign-up is required.
The city has been won an award for Sustained Excellence eight out of the past nine years and in 2013 was one of 10 cities to receive the Governor’s Community Achievement Award for outstanding community improvement.
