Copperas Cove students and staff who attend Creekview Academy, a charter school, celebrated Cinco De Mayo last Friday with an international cultural celebration.

Older students provided food from different countries, while younger students used passports to visit and sample the culture and food.

Deryl Clark, a teacher known to students as Coach, said his first- and second-grade math and science classes loved the celebration and the food they sampled.

“It’s always nice to have the opportunity to try new things,” he said. “The students and I enjoyed the Italian banana pudding the most. Italy was our favorite because of the food but the information the students were given about Japan made the experience even better.”

Cindy Fisher, who teaches third and fourth grades at Creekview, called the event a “huge success.”

“My students loved it and wanted more. (We) learned where some of the foods we love to eat come from,” she said.

Creekview Academy is a charter school in Killeen with kindergarten through ninth grade students from Copperas Cove, Nolanville, Belton, Temple and Killeen.
