Thirty-two children tested their football fundamentals as part of a Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation event Saturday that gave them a chance to show off their skills on a national level.

Four Copperas Cove boys and one girl will advance to the sectional round of the NFL-sponsored Punt, Pass and Kick event.

From there the top four first-place scorers in each age group advance to the team championships held at NFL stadiums across the country.

“The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick program creates a lively and engaging forum for boys and girls ages 6-15 to compete individually against their peers in punting, passing and kicking skills,” said Joseph Pace, Cove parks and recreation director.

Competitors were placed in gender and age divisions.

The Copperas Cove children who finished first of those groups were:

Cody Lingo, the 6- and 7-year-old division

Gabe Chapman, the 8- and 9-year-old division

Casey Busby, the 10- and 11-year-old division

Tyler Price, the 12- and 13-year-old division

Cheyann Falk, the 10- and 11-year-old division
