A forecast of rain caused Brandi’s Grooming to extend its annual fundraiser an extra day, and the move paid off for the local animal control shelter.

The annual fundraiser held over the weekend raised $2,000 to benefit the city of Copperas Cove animal shelter. David Wellington, Copperas Cove Animal Control supervisor, said the money will be used to medically treat the animals when needed. The city contracts its veterinary services for the shelter.

This is the third year the fundraiser has been held. Volunteer Chairman Monica Bates of Copperas Cove said it truly is a community effort. “We literally had thousands of items donated for the sale and we are grateful to the community for that and for shopping the two days of the event,” she said. “We also had a significant numbers of volunteers help with the yard sale. Without the community support, the event would not have been successful.”

Stacy Engstrom, a Scentsy independent consultant from Copperas Cove, donated her sales commission of $200 to the event.

“Dogs are my heart and I want to support my local community,” she said. “The shelters are where the funds are low and most needed for animal recovery and to find them good homes.”

Engstrom became involved in animal rescue several years ago and houses dogs she procures from shelters, strays in the neighborhood, and friends who find them.

Brandi’s Grooming has hosted the annual fundraiser for three years, raising $6,000 total for the municipal shelter.

Owner Tracy Carter plans a second fundraiser in March for the More Paws 2 Love Animal Rescue in Killeen.
