The 10th annual Sean French Memorial Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament will be held April 26 at the Hills of Cove Golf Course in Copperas Cove.

Al Castillo and Jim French, Sean’s father, are the organizers of the event.

Castillo said the tournament was named after Sean because he was a “very active Knight.” Sean French died in 2004 from liver failure at age 34.

Jim French said the Knights of Columbus is a fraternal family organization that was initially started to help widows and orphans. It works closely with the Catholic church within the parishes, he said.

The tournament’s goal each year is to raise money for scholarships for graduating high school seniors.

“We’ve been able to provide three $1,000 scholarships now for probably seven years,” said Castillo, adding that the group has provided 35 to 40 scholarships since they began the event.

The fee to play in the tournament is $55, which covers green fees, a cart and a meal afterward.

“It’s not too late to register,” Castillo said.

Jim French said the money for the scholarships comes from sponsoring a hole for $100.

“Those people who are interested in giving toward a scholarship and don’t want to play golf can still sponsor a hole,” he said.

The teams are Florida Scramble four-person teams. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

The deadline to register is Thursday.
