The sisters of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority were able to award one of Copperas Cove’s own with one of their coveted scholarships.
The altruistic sorority conducts fundraising events each year to award scholarships to high school seniors entering the field of education.
Interested applicants are required to complete paperwork provided by ADK members through their school counselor.
Cove High School senior Emily Myers was awarded the $1,000 scholarship from the organization. Myers was very active at CCHS in the local chapter of the Texas Association of Future Educators. She qualified to compete at the TAFE state conference where she received a Blue Ribbon Award for compiling the chapter’s yearbook.
Myers will attend Central Texas College in the fall and later transfer to the University of North Texas to study elementary education.
ADK also supports the McKinney-Vinto Program of Copperas Cove, which supplies much-needed supplies and services to homeless students.
The sorority has donated school and living supplies and bus passes this year to meet the needs of that specific student population.
The Alpha Delta Kappa sorority meets in Killeen on the second Monday of the month and includes many educators from both Copperas Cove and Killeen.
