Moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas may have younger dates than one might expect this Valentine’s season.

The second annual Mommy/Daddy & Me Sweetheart Tea is scheduled for Feb. 17, and the size of the event has doubled to accommodate the demand.

The event is hosted again this year by Copperas Cove Five Hills Ambassador Trisha Stutz whose platform of service during her yearlong reign is post-traumatic stress disorder awareness. Stutz is the wife of Sgt. Timothy Stutz, who is assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division.

“Because PTSD is a mental illness and can effect each person differently, it is often hard to treat and diagnose,” Stutz said. “It is important to me to raise awareness so that those who truly do need help can and will step forward without fear of what could happen. With effective treatment, we can help prevent domestic violence, suicide and hopefully save lives.”

Money raised from the event is donated to Bring Everyone in the Zone to fund peer-to-peer counseling services in Cove for soldiers with PTSD.

Bearables at 209 S. Main St., has teamed up with Stutz for a second year to offer its location for the charity event and is providing Beauty and the Beast as special guests. Owner B.J. Callaway’s husband served 24 years in the Army.

“He has seen a lot, and I believe in my heart that though he doesn’t have PTSD, he easily could have had with everything he has done and everything he has seen,” Callaway said. “This makes me sad that so many suffer with this and most of it contributes to additional tragedies beyond their control. If I can help in some small way, I am more than willing to do that.”

Eventgoers will enjoy a formal atmosphere complete with cloth linens and plate towers and China tea cups and saucers. Three servings of savories, three servings of sweets, three different servings of finger sandwiches and three servings of teas will be offered to attendees. In between each service, Stutz will share with guests etiquette tips and table manners in a fun way they can remember with interactive exercises and repetitive motion.

They will also learn the dances, the box step and the waltz. Guests will be waited on by Copperas Cove Five Hills royalty wearing long gowns. The event is sponsored by Chick-fil-A.

The event offered two sessions last year and sold out with a long waiting list. This year, the event has double with four sessions offered. Each session is limited to 24 guests.

Tickets are $10 each and are available online at Eventbright or Facebook. For questions, email fivehillspageant@gmail.com or call 719-355-6944.
