The Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 will hold its annual community auction at 10:30 a.m. March 29 at 1506 Veterans Ave. in Copperas Cove.

The community auction hosts raffle tables and auctions so local organizations can raise funds for their selected charities. It has been an event in Copperas Cove for 10 years, said Juanita Workman, the auction’s coordinator.

“Everyone is invited to participate or set up a raffle table,” Workman said. “This year we’ll have (Women’s Army Corps) Vets Chapter 94 and the Copperas Cove Soup Kitchen. The funds they’ll raise at the auction will support their obligations for the year, so it’s important that the community comes out and show their support.”

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary to Post 8577, the Junior Girls to the Ladies Auxiliary 8577, the Military Order Cootie Auxiliary 13 and Auxiliary Pup Tent 13, and the AARP Chapter 1359 will comprise the remaining organizations scheduled to participate, Workman said.

The year’s activities will include the auxiliary’s Cake Walk at 10:30 a.m. and the Dime a Dip Lunch where guests can purchase lunch. The raffle table and auction which will begin at 12:30 p.m.

“These events are how the auxiliary raises money to support our programs,” she said. “We have 14 programs we support and we’ll be raising funds for things like cancer research and our youth scholarship program. It will also help when we visit the veterans hospital and play Bingo and bring them snacks.”
