COPPERAS COVE — Police last weekend arrested a man suspected of breaking into a home with a baseball bat after attacking a woman. He remained in Coryell County Jail on Wednesday.
Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Desland Ray Wallace on Saturday on a charge of burglary of a habitation to commit another felony. Price set his bond at $25,000.
According to an arrest affidavit, Wallace was in a home in the 2100 block of Wayne Street on Friday night, when he threatened a woman with a knife. After putting the knife down, he hit the woman in the face with his elbow. She then pushed him out of the house.
Wallace then grabbed a baseball bat from the front porch and broke the front glass door attempting to regain entry into the house, the affidavit stated. Police found Wallace in the 1600 block of Donna Avenue carrying a bat. He allegedly admitted to smashing the door with the bat.
In an unrelated incident, Price arraigned Johnie Nelson Randolph on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, more than 1 gram less than 4 grams.
Randolph had a blue jewelry bag with 1.3 grams of methamphetamine hidden in his right shoe, an arrest affidavit stated.
