Millions of Americans will unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others Saturday as part of National Make A Difference Day, and Copperas Cove residents are no exception.

Altrusa International is distributing books throughout the Head Start program today as part of the national day of volunteering.

The Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove and the Central Texas STARZZ AAU youth basketball program will conduct a community food drive at the Copperas Cove Walmart, 2720 E. Highway 190. Food and monetary donations will go to My Brother’s House Food Bank and the Cove Soup Kitchen.

Several groups have teamed up with Parks and Recreation for the 2013 Safe Trick or Treat event, said Kellie Sames of the city’s human resources department. More volunteers are invited to help with the event, which starts at 6 p.m. in City Park.
