JROTC cadets at Copperas Cove High School can now utilize lessons learned during last weekend’s organizational day to prepare for careers both in and outside the military.

Chief Warrant 3 Enrique Herrera, JROTC commander, said the keys to success at Saturday’s event were leadership and teamwork.

“Imagine a high school kid who can motivate and inspire 60 other kids to accomplish the task at hand. These are lifelong skills that (the cadets) will use in their professional careers,” Herrera said. “Its about teamwork and motivating your team. Its about everybody and you, not just you.”

Herrera also said the event’s success spilled over into this week, as cadets continued to talk about the competition and the possibility of having a second organizational day in the spring semester. Based on funds available, a second day of competition is a possibility, he said.

“(Org Day) is a great learning opportunity,” Cadet Joshua Holt said. “We each have to perform our assigned tasks and that comes through collaboration.”

The JROTC now begins planning its final event of the year, the formal ball, scheduled for April 11.
