Brandi’s collects donations for benefit
Brandi’s Grooming is collecting donations of household goods for an Oct. 13 benefit garage sale for the Copperas Cove Animal Shelter.
Residents can deliver donations of garage sale items at Brandi’s Grooming, 301 W. U.S. Highway 190, between 7:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday prior to the event.
The sale will began at 8 a.m. at the business, where Animal Control will showcase dogs available for adoption.
All proceeds will go to Animal Control for use at the shelter.
Astronomy group to host star party
The Central Texas Astronomical Society will host a star party from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Overlook Park near Stillhouse Hollow Lake in Belton.
The constellation Pegasus and the Andromeda Galaxy will be featured.
The astronomy group provides telescopes for public viewing, but guests are welcome to bring their own.
There will be a cancellation notice posted on www.centexastronomy.org by 5 p.m. Saturday if the weather is unsuitable for stargazing.
Dress for the weather and bring a small flashlight and a lawn chair.
This event is free to the public.

Cove VFW post to entertain VA patients
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 and the Ladies Auxiliary will have a VA Patients Day Out at noon Wednesday.
The hospitalized veterans visit the post monthly for lunch, bingo and prizes donated by the VFW Post and Auxiliary members.
Auxiliary members are asked to bring covered dishes and desserts.
The VFW is located at 1506 Veterans Ave. in Coppperas Cove.

German Sausagefest scheduled for Nov. 3
The German Sausagefest will be held in Copperas Cove from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3.
Feast on an authentic German-style meal and homemade baked goods and listen to live music.
The prices for a dinner are $5.50 for children and $8 for adults. Bulk sausage is sold at $6 a pound. Take-out dinners will be available. The sausagefest will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 518 E. Highway U.S. 190 in Copperas Cove.

City facilities to close for holiday
In observance of Columbus Day on Monday, all city facilities will be closed, including the Solid Waste Department. There will be no solid waste collection for residential customers.
All residential services will be delayed by one day, to include bulk, brush, recycling and trash item collection.
Commercial customers will receive service at their normal times.

The Kempner United Methodist Church will have its annual food drive to fill Solomon’s Porch Food Pantry from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 12. All donations are appreciated and will remain in Kempner.

Robertson Avenue Baptist Church will host its Gospel Music Jamboree from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 13.
