Browning garden club raises money
Debbie Burrows was nominated zone director at a recent Texas Garden Club meeting in Mason. She also accepted the position of Arbor Day awards chairman.
At a recent meeting of the club, members had a bake sale as a fundraiser. The theme study topic was wetland preservation. Dolores Rump of Austin presented a program using vegetables, flowers and other plant materials. The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at the fellowship hall of Clear Creek Baptist Church. Connie Madison will provide a program on Companion Planting.

Help make fleece blankets for seniors
Visiting Angels, a living assistance services organization, is collecting fleece for blankets for area seniors for Christmas. They are seeking donations of two coordinating pieces of fleece, 1 and 5/8 yard each. The patterns should be appropriate for seniors.
The fleece is needed by Nov. 30. It will be tied together during the annual Christmas party. Donations can be dropped off at the Visiting Angels office, 2213 Birdcreek Terrace in Temple. For more information, call (254) 899-9400.
Immanuel Lutheran publishes cookbook
The Immanuel Lutheran Church of Copperas Cove published a cookbook of 401 traditional recipes. They will be on sale in time for the holiday for $15.
The proceeds will go to programs such as the youth group or the Bible study group.

Auxiliary announces nursing scholarship
The Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 is taking part in the nursing scholarship program for the Department of Texas Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW.
This year the state will giving out three scholarships. First place is $2,000, second place $1,500 and third place is $1,000.
Winners will be invited to the department convention in June to receive the scholarships.
Any nursing student who is accepted as a nursing senior for the fall of 2013 academic session qualifies as long as the following applies: must be attending a Texas college or university, must be an American citizen, must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Submit a double-spaced typed essay (300 words) on “Why a Nursing Career?”
The deadline is May. Application forms and instructions may be obtained from Karen Kaylor at (254) 547-5619. After receiving the completed application and essay with required documentation, it will be submitted to the state nursing chairman.
