GATESVILLE — The 52nd District Court grand jury indicted a Coryell County man accused of firing on sheriff’s deputies in early February.

David Ray Sneed, 40, was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant last week by the grand jury. He is being held in jail on $175,000 bond.

According to earlier reports, sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on County Road 148 for a domestic disturbance call Feb. 8.

An “angry and hostile” Sneed confronted the deputy who tried to arrest him, Sheriff Johnny Burks said in a February news release.

When the deputy and backup officers began to surround Sneed’s home, Sneed allegedly opened fire with a rifle and a shotgun, Burks said.

The confrontation between deputies and Sneed lasted throughout the evening with Texas Department of Public Safety officers, to include a Special Weapons and Tactics team.

Shortly after noon Feb. 9, Sneed was arrested outside his home without further incident, according to the release. No one was hurt during the incident.
