Nine children and their chaperones, Ashley Williams and Pat Jackson, walked through the halls of Hill Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Copperas Cove on Monday morning handing out handmade cards to residents in honor of Grandparents Day.
A little girl in pink shorts danced in the middle of a circle of residents, talking to everyone. She told an administrator that she wanted to have her birthday party at the center and invited everyone to attend.
The children were from the Perfect Praise Learning Center, a day care run by the Christian House of Prayer in Copperas Cove.
The group makes frequent trips to visit the nursing home residents, said Pat Jackson, activities director.
“They’ve adopted us,” said Pam Walls, the center’s life enrichment director.
Residents visited with the children briefly before going to exercise.
Later, the residents were treated to cake and punch and students from Copperas Cove High School arrived to participate in an Adopt-A-Grandparent program.
