Copperas Cove city officials recently approved the purchase of new public safety uniforms, which will be provided by Miller Uniforms and Emblems of Austin. The budgeted amount set aside for uniforms is $82,000, according to city documents.

The new uniforms will look exactly like current uniforms, said Kevin Keller, city spokesman.

The city also will apply for the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant in May. According to city documents, grant funds received by Copperas Cove purchased vests for officers since 2000. Previous grants received by the city ranged from $1,078 to $7,573. The awards constitute 50 percent of the total cost of the vests.
