Retired teachers Christmas dinner, auction

The Copperas Cove Retired Teachers Association will have a Christmas Dinner and auction at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 101 West Ave F, Copperas Cove. Reservations are due by Nov. 30. Cost per person is $10. Meal choice is beef or chicken.

Send meal choice and check to Liz Van Keuren, P.O. Box 583, Copperas Cove. Members are asked to bring wrapped gifts for the auction.

Shred-it-Day at National Bank

Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful, The National Banks of Central Texas and Fort Hood Recycle are holding a free Shred-it-Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the National Bank of Central Texas, 408 S. Main St., Copperas Cove.

Bring unwanted documents and they will by destroyed by HIPPAA certified staff. Call Silvia Rhoads at 254-547-4242.

Christmas tree lighting ceremony

The City of Copperas Cove invites the public to attend the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 adjacent to the Public Library, 501 S. Main Street. One family will be selected during the evening to light the tree.

Free hot chocolate and cookies are provided while waiting for Santa’s arrival. Call Parks and Recreation at 254-542-2719.

Cove road repairs

The Texas Department of Transportation is beginning road repairs on Sunday that are expected to last through early Wed.

Motorists can expect temporary lane closures, delays and detours in the following locations: intersection of Farm-to-Market 1113 and Farm-to-Market 116, intersection of Wolf Road and Avenue D, intersection of Farm-to-Market 116 and Avenue D, intersection of Farm-to-Market 116 and Robertson Avenue and intersection of Farm-to-Market 116 and U.S. Highway 190.

Construction will occur between the 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Motorists should be alert for maintenance personnel and equipment in the work zones and should seek alternate routes if possible.
