City changes waste schedules

The City of Copperas Cove Solid Waste Department’s brush, bulk and recycling schedule for 2012-13 changed.

Recyclables and bulky items are collected twice a month. Up to three cubic yards of bulky items are collected for free, after that a fee of $6 per cubic yard applies.

Pickup for Area 1 is the first and third Monday; for Area 2 it’s the second and fourth Monday; for Area 3 it’s the first and third Tuesday; for Area 4 it’s the second and fourth Tuesday; for Area 5 it’s the first and third Wednesday; for Area 6 it’s the second and fourth Wednesday; for Area 7 it’s the first and third Thursday; and for Area 8 it’s the second and fourth Thursday. Pickups for all areas will be delayed by one day following a holiday.

German Sausagefest set for Saturday

The German Sausagefest will be held in Copperas Cove from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. An authentic German-style meal and live music will be offered. The meal is $5.50 for children and $8 for adults. Bulk sausage will be sold at $6 a pound. Take-out dinners will be available.

The Sausagefest will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 518 E. Highway U.S. 190 in Copperas Cove. For more information, call (254) 547-2225.

Noon Exchange Club paints curb

The Noon Exchange Club and the Exchange Club of Copperas Cove worked with volunteers on “Make a Difference Day” by painting the curb at the Exchange Sunshine on Leonhard Street.

Cove Library offers programs for kids

The Copperas Cove Library offers Toddler Time from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and Story Time from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursdays. For more information, call (254) 547-3826.

Senior Center provides driver’s course

The Cove Senior center will hold an AARP Drivers Safety Course from noon to 4 p.m. Monday. There will also be a pancake breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. It is recommended that you buy your tickets early.

Cove class of 1967 announces reunion

The Copperas Cove class of 1967 is planning its 45th reunion from 3 to 9 p.m. Nov. 10 at Five Hills BBQ on U.S. Highway 190.

All classmates are asked to reach out to alumni to spread the word. The classes of 1966 and 1968 are welcome to attend.

St. Martin’s Episcopal Church has bazaar

The St. Martin’s Episcopal Church women are celebrating the Joy of Giving Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Saturday. There will be vendors for Christmas shopping, holiday refreshments and pictures with Santa.

St. Martin’s blesses bikes on Nov. 17

Ride up the hill to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Nov. 17 and receive a blessing from the priest and a cup of hot cider. All bikes and bikers are welcome. St. Martin’s Episcopal Church is located at 1602 S. Farm-to-Market 116 in Copperas Cove.

ACT provides parenting classes

Aware Central Texas provides parenting classes Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at 300 West Avenue B. The cost is $5 per person.

Register for Bell County Toy Run

Early registration for the 17th annual Bell County Toy Run is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fort Hood Harley-Davidson.

All proceeds will go for care packages for soldiers serving overseas; Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children Inc., a nonprofit organization that serves special needs and chronically ill children; and other charities.

The public is invited to ride. Anyone with a car, motorcycle or truck may participate in the annual toy run.

Registration is $10 per person or one new toy valued at $10 or more. Registration is at 875 W. Central Texas Expressway in Harker Heights.

This event is sponsored by the Fort Hood Harley-Davidson Owner’s Group Chapter 2070.

Bell County Toy Run is Nov. 18.
