Pledge of Allegiance party

The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 8577 will have an Americanism Pledge of Allegiance party at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at 1506 Veterans Ave. in Copperas Cove.

All children and grandchildren in the second grade and below of post and Auxiliary members are invited to attend. Certificates will be given.

Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served.

Household hazardous waste event April 27

The city’s Solid Waste Department hosts a household hazardous waste event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27.

The free event is open to all residents of Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills and San Saba counties. Proof of residency is required.

Accepted items will be paints, automobile batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, corrosives and electronics. Also accepted will be up to seven tires off the rim.

This event is for households only.

Exchange Club, Crusaders battle child abuse

The Copperas Cove Crusaders boys varsity basketball team will help members of the Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove raise money for Campaign for Kids, a child abuse prevention program.

The event will take place in front of Walmart in Copperas Cove on May 6.

The Campaign for Kids is an annual event to raise money and awareness to prevent child abuse.

Proceeds are donated to community organizations to create public awareness, support families and protect children.

Members sought for youth council

Copperas Cove officials are seeking local students between the grades of eight through 12 to participate in the Copperas Cove Youth Advisory Council.

The council offers youth the chance to have an active role in addressing community issues and to serve as a voice for youth in the community.

Eligible participants should be current Cove ISD students and in good standing with CCISD. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the golf course.

Legal aid interviews set for Wednesday

Lone Star Legal Aid will conduct client interviews in Coryell County on Wednesday and then every third Wednesday of each month: from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Coryell County Annex at 205 S. Seventh St. in Gatesville and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Justice of the Peace Courtroom, Coryell County Annex at 201 S. Second St. in Copperas Cove.

This is a free service for representation of low-income residents of Coryell County in civil legal matters such as landlord/tenant, Social Security, powers of attorney, wills, probate and more.

Mother Neff park celebrates Earth Day

The Mother Neff State Park Associates will celebrate the many wildflowers in the Washita prairie.

Dr. Walter Holmes, a renowned Baylor University biologist, will guide a wildflower walk, suitable for all ages, beginning at 2 p.m. April 20. The walk will be conducted rain or shine.

Participants are asked to come prepared for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen and water bottles.

The event is free, but participants 13 years and older will pay a $2 entrance fee, unless they have a Texas State Park Pass or Parkland Passport.
