Members of the Copperas Cove FFA chapter competed earlier this month in the district Leadership Development Events contest at Salado High School.
Members participated in eight of the 14 events that were offered.
Rebecka Downing, 17, placed first at district in Job Interview, earning the chapter a banner and a spot to compete at the area level.
“The skills I have learned through my experience in the competition will make me more experienced in job-seeking and more confident while interviewing,” said Downing, a high school senior.
The Junior Chapter Conducting Team placed third and also earned a banner.
Team members were Travis Dewald, Garielle Griffin, Katherine Cooley, Kayla Ayala, Carson Davis, Teresa Pitrucha and Haley Ridings.
They were required them to learn parliamentary procedure, recite opening and closing ceremonies, and solve an intricate problem, unknown until the time of competition.
Gabrielle Griffin won a third place banner for her Greenhand Creed Speaking performance. Four Greenhand members, Travis Dewald, Katherine Cooley, Carson Davis and Haley Ridings, competed in Junior Quiz and placed third, earning yet another banner for the chapter.
The quiz team was tested on its knowledge of agriculture and parliamentary procedure.
The radio team, composed of members Taylor Kelley, Ryan McWhorter and Rebecka Downing, placed fourth at Monday’s competition.
In the event, competitors relay a broadcast over the radio to a panel of judges.
Daniel West, Teresa Pitrucha, Kayla Ayala and Halee Kloesel placed fifth in the Public Relations event which promoted the FFA organization to potential FFA members.
Senior Creed speaker, Jackie Sveter, won eighth place for her performance of the agricultural piece and responses to questions. The Senior Quiz team, with members Daniel West, Taylor Kelley, Ryan McWhorter and Halee Kloesel, placed 10th in district.
Amanda Anderson, FFA Advisor, said the students represented Copperas Cove well.
“Their hard work and dedication paid off and they learn so much from these competitions,” Anderson said.
“We are looking forward to the spring where we will compete at more contests with the Career Development Events.”
