City Manager Andrea Gardner last week recognized numerous volunteers who helped the city conduct its first employee Wellness 5K Walk and Run.

“We had a lot of volunteers that came out and participated,” Gardner said, handing several of the volunteers tokens of appreciation. “We certainly couldn’t have done this without the work of the volunteers. They made sure no one got ran over by a motor vehicle.”

The Wellness 5K Walk and Run was conducted on April 15 to promote healthier living for city employees. Volunteers provided encouragement and directed city employees through the course.

Among the groups who donated time to the Wellness 5K Run/Walk were the Copperas Cove Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, the Cove Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau and an employee’s spouse.

“There is no greater thing than someone donating their time,” Gardner said about Jessica Reyna, the spouse who contributed to the event.
