After a year’s hiatus, the Copperas Cove High School Copperettes will host its fifth annual Copperette Christmas Charity Show at 7 p.m. today at Lea Ledger Auditorium, 400 S. 25th St., Copperas Cove. The theme is “Dancing in a Winter Wonderland.”
Coach Julia Hamilton said the audience can expect to see various dance numbers, including jazz, pom, lyrical and hip hop, to cheerful holiday tunes. More than 100 dancers are expected to be in the show.
“We have members from all over the community performing in the show including the Gatesville Dazzlers, Gym Kix, the Copperettes, the Starlets, and various dance classes performing,” she said.
Special guest performances will come from the varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders and the S.C. Lee and Copperas Cove Junior High schools’ cheerleaders.
The first show was in 2007. Last year’s show was canceled when Copperas Cove High School received a bomb threat the day of the show.
“I’m really excited to have the show this year,” said Copperette Caitlin Turner. “Especially since it got canceled last year.”
Turner said the Copperettes practiced 8 to 10 hours a week to get ready for the big night. She said it is an opportunity to be in a dance performance with other groups while not having to be in competition with them.
“It’s going to be really cool to see what they can do,” Turner said. “Hopefully, we will get to see most of the show.”
Tickets are $3 unless you bring a donation of gently used coats, blankets or comforters, a new unwrapped toy, or three canned goods or nonperishable food items.
Turner said all money and items collected will be given to charity.
“We’re a team that likes to help out and be leaders in our school,” Turner said. “The volunteer work is also good for college applications and getting scholarships.”
