GATESVILLE — After weeks of discussion, Coryell County Commissioners this week agreed on some of the offices that will move into the newly acquired Extraco Bank building a block from the courthouse square.

Indecision over which county officials would relocate has caused some delay in the commissioners’ 2014 budget planning, which the governing body hopes to have completed by the end of July.

Offices of the county judge, county treasurer and county auditor will move from the courthouse to the Extraco annex, the commissioners agreed.

The sheriff’s criminal investigative division and the offices of two justices of the peace — Beverly Jones of Precinct 3 and Coy Latham of Precinct 4 — also will be moved to the new building.

County Clerk Barbara Simpson, who delayed presenting her budget request to commissioners until she knew if her office was moving, learned this week it will stay in the courthouse.

Simpson’s $368,000 budget request included an $18,000 increase for computer system upkeep — $1,000 for hardware management and $17,000 for software maintenance.

She asked the county to pay for three-quarters of the software maintenance.

Record Management funds would pay for one-fourth of the cost and would be used to “purchase software when I have found suitable new court software,” she said.
