Runners rejoice as the Gallop or Trot 5K draws near.

The annual run on Sept. 21 is put on by the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce.

Runners will begin at the Copperas Cove Civic Center in City Park, with the race route winding them through the hills of Copperas Cove’s residential area.

Interested area runners are encouraged to participate in the final run of 2013.

“(The 5K) gives our neighboring communities an opportunity to visit our great city, and see what all Copperas Cove has to offer,” said Liz Sherman, Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce vice president.

Registration

Interested runners can register online or print their registration forms at www.copperascove.com. A $20 early registration fee will be available through today. Afterward, the fee is $25.

The first 150 people to register will receive a Dry-fit race shirt. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group, with plaques awarded to the overall male and female finishers.

Pre-registration packet pickup is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Chamber of Commerce, 204 E. Robertson Ave. Check-in, late registration and packet pickup will be from 6:30 to 7 a.m. race day, Sept. 21, at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, 1206 W. Avenue B. The race starts at 8 a.m.

Refreshments

All participants can enjoy free Starbucks coffee and light snacks from Whataburger before and after the race.

“As with all our events, we strive for community involvement,” said Liz Sherman, the chamber’s tourism director. “This gives participants an opportunity to meet other runners and walkers.”

The Gallop or Trot 5K is the last of three annual races that the city hosts.
