COPPERAS COVE — Police arrested a Copperas Cove man accused of possessing methamphetamine.

Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Michael Leanthony Cheeks on Saturday on a charge of a possession of a controlled substance, more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams. Price set his bond at $25,000.

According to the arrest complaint, a police officer recognized a white 2001 Ford Explorer in the 1000 block of South Seventh Street about 12:35 a.m. Saturday as belonging to Cheeks, who had a warrant out on him.

The officer ordered Cheeks out of the car and arrested him.

While taking inventory of the vehicle, the officer found two plastic bags containing a white, crystallized substance between the driver’s seat and center console that later tested positive as methamphetamine, with a combined weight of 1.5 grams.
