The police department is investigating an armed robbery that took place early Tuesday morning.

The police responded to a call at 4:25 a.m.

Officers arrived in the 300 block of North Drive and found a female victim, according to Lt. Jeremy Alber of the Cove police. The victim had been held at gunpoint while a suspect took her purse.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, Alber said in a news release.

The suspect is described as a black man wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, about 6 feet to 6-feet-2 inches tall.
