Cory Don Crosby

A 34-year-old Gatesville man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in state prison for injuring a child, Coryell County District Attorney Dustin H. Boyd said in a news release.

Cory Don Crosby placed a child in a dog kennel, and tipped or rolled the kennel, causing injuries to the child’s face, the prosecutor’s office said.

A Coryell County jury found Crosby guilty of a third-degree felony after a two-day trial.

An enhancement based on a prior 2003 conviction of the same offense elevated the penalty to second degree. The 20-year sentence is the maximum, the release said.

Crosby must also pay a $5,000 fine. He was charged May 13, 2016.
