COPPERAS COVE — Police on Thursday arrested a Copperas Cove man suspected of trying to cash two $550 forged checks.

Justice of the Peace John Guinn arraigned Kenneth DeLeon on Friday on a charge of forgery of a financial instrument. Guinn set his bond at $5,000.

Police responded to the 1500 block of East U.S. Highway 190 on Thursday for a passing of a forged check incident, the arrest complaint stated. The victim said DeLeon gave her two forged checks.

DeLeon told police the checks were from a company he did business with a year ago, which sent him the checks in the mail, the complaint stated. The victim called JP Morgan Chase Bank to check the account information on the checks, and the bank reported the checks’ routing numbers were closed.

In an unrelated case, Guinn arraigned Amber Jozlyn-Maria Harris on a charge of assault of a family member by impeding breathing or circulation. Guinn set her bond at $10,000.
