The holiday decorations at 1012 Timmons St., are a continued work in progress. Ashley Baty, 22, was in her front yard Wednesday shaking her head.

“I have two trees that are not working now,” Baty said. “Lights go out all the time. I have to find out where the problem is and change the bulbs.”

The Baty’s spacious front yard is dotted with carolers, a nativity scene, four individual reindeer that move — not to be confused with Santa and his reindeer strategically placed further away. There are seven spiral trees, an inflatable Santa, snowman, a horse and carriage, mailbox, and the list goes on.

It takes Baty two days to set up the holiday decoration extravaganza.

“It is so time consuming, but the result is really worth it,” Baty said. “The plants are all dead this time of year and it’s nice to have the beauty (of the decorations).”

Baty couldn’t count all the lights she has strung up through the trees, wrapped around the house, and draped on anything inside the property line. She stopped counting at 800 lights.

“My mom definitely sees the difference in the electric bill,” Baty said. “But she loves it when people slow down to look at the house.”

The hard work paid off. The Baty home received third place in the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Holiday Home Decorating Contest.

Fourteen beautifully decorated homes entered this year’s contest, KCCB President Liz Sherman said.

“We had several more nominations this year than last year. Our panel of judges had a hard time picking the winners,” Sherman said.

Three Cove homes, including the Baty’s, were selected as the most beautifully decorated homes in the city. Each winner received a Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful sign to display in their yards until after New Year’s and a glass plaque.
