Each year the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful campaign participates in the Great American Cleanup, and Saturday at 9 a .m. the Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-off will begin at 9 a.m. at 332 Town Square in Cove.
Participants are asked to meet at the GC Services parking lot in the Town Square shopping center.
Last year the trash-off had 102 volunteers come out and clean 1,400 pounds of litter from four roadways, Silvia Rhoads said, executive director of KCCB.
“We would like to ask everyone that can, to bring a friend with them,” Rhoads said. “We’d love to top last year’s amazing turnout. There will be doughnuts and coffee and free T-shirts, and volunteers can expect to spend a couple of hours collecting litter along three or four roadways.”
This is important to the community and it will help beautify Cove and volunteers can make a big difference, she said.
“Last year people driving by wondered what we were doing, some honked their horn in support and who knows, it may even encourage them to help this year,” she added.
The Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful event is registered with Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful as part of the Great American Cleanup which runs from March 1 through May 31 annually.
“Each year the number of events grows nationwide, and it’s amazing to see how volunteers come together, event by event, to make a difference,” Rhoads said. “We are just a small piece of the puzzle, but the puzzle can’t be completed without us.”
