It was a night of impressive scientific work when Copperas Cove Independent School District hosted its fourth annual districtwide science fair Monday at the Mayborn Science Theater at Central Texas College.

A total of 42 students, representing grades 3 through 12, participated in the showcase event that focused on the scientific method.

The night included self-guided tours of the student projects, a planetarium show, refreshments and a formal recognition program.

Guest speaker was deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction, Dr. Katie Ryan, who said she was astonished at the depth of complexity in the student projects.

Overall district winners were:

Elementary school:

  • First — Travis Sanders
  • Second — Mikayla Wilson
  • Third — Tyler Mathis

Junior high school:

  • First — Madelyn Miller
  • Second — Abbie Wardlow
  • Third — Alexis Honts

High school:

  • First — Mikayla Miller
  • Second — Ashley Prax and Aleia Wardlow
  • Third — Kayla Wilson
