Schools celebrate Breakfast Week

Copperas Cove Independent School District schools participated in National School Breakfast Week this week in a effort to elevate awareness of the importance of the morning meal.

It also highlighted the school breakfast program and encouraged families to participate so students don’t miss the first meal of the day.

“Too many children are showing up at school hungry, and hungry children can’t learn,” said Melissa Murray-Paez, CCISD director of child nutrition, in a press release. “Eating breakfast at school can help families save time in the morning, and knowing that school breakfast is healthy and a great value is a huge relief for parents.”

Copperas Cove ISD’s breakfast program meets federal nutritional guidelines and limits harmful fats, calories and sodium.

“The child nutrition department wants to remind each student how important the 3Es of healthy living are — education, exercise and eating right,” Murray-Paez said.

Throughout the week, cafeterias celebrated with decorations, activities and events including an art contest, a visit from Borden’s Elsie the Cow, and PE classes with a Zumba instructor.

The theme this year was “Take Time for School Breakfast-Rise and Shine Texas Style.”
