Abeyo Marqz

Candice Williams, owner of Abeyo Marqz in the Cove Terrace Shopping Center, arranges jewelry on display in her store on Monday, April 7, 2014.

When Candice Williams, 33, took a huge leap of faith to open Abeyo Marqz Boutique in Copperas Cove in March, she was fulfilling a dream she has had since she was 15 years old.

“I’m going to put everything I’ve got into the shop and give it a real try,” Williams said.

Williams’ journey into fashion began after her six-year stint in the Army and while working for an overseas contractor. Her job-related travels through Qatar and Bahrain rekindled her fashion passion.

“My mind went crazy when I saw the fabrics and patterns in their stores, and everything came back to me about having a fashion career,” she said.

Williams did her first fashion line and made business connections before she left the contracting job and returned to Central Texas in 2012. She is grateful to the City of Copperas Cove for being very supportive and to her friend, Sgt. 1st Class Chervon Jones, who helped paint the shop’s interior.

Williams is a former cosmetologist and is working on getting a master’s degree in fashion merchandising from the online Academy of Art Universities.

The boutique offers urban and modern contemporary clothing with very trendy and vibrant colors. Popular this season are white, mint green, apple green and royal blue. The boutique carries rompers, jumpers, work and causal dresses, some couture shirts, shoes and jewelry.

Williams’ clothing lines come from New York and Los Angeles, but she doesn’t stick to certain labels and prefers to shop around to bring in different items. She stays on top of trends and is eager to help clients put together the right outfit that matches their style and budget.

“When you look good, you get a different type of confidence about yourself,” she said. “I’m about feeling great about yourself, especially for a woman.”

A free grand-opening fashion show will be held at Abeyo Marqz Boutique from 6 to 8 p.m. May 11. Online RSVP is available at eventbrite.com or by calling 800-565-1799.
