Freedom Shrine displays historic documents

GATESVILLE — County Judge John Firth joined the Gatesville Exchange Club in the rededication of a county annex Freedom Shrine Monday morning. The shrine is a collection of 19 framed replicas of historic American documents that the Exchange Club donated for display.

Exchange Club members participating in the ceremony were District Attorney Dusty Boyd, Phyllis Jacobs, Barbara Considine, Barby Daniel, John Daniel, Laura White and Jo Ann Sugg.

Documents in the collection include George Washington’s copy of the U.S. Constitution, Thomas Jefferson’s draft of the Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, the Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, Ben Franklin’s Epitaph, Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, the 19th Amendment, the Star-Spangled Banner and the Treaty of Paris of 1782.
