GATESVILLE — Lyle Zoeller accepted handshakes and good wishes from friends and neighbors this week as he wound up a 15-year stint as Coryell County Agrilife Extension agent and prepared for a new assignment in Belton.

Zoeller will join the Bell County AgriLife Extension staff Tuesday as the new county extension agent for agriculture.

“I look forward to working with landowners and producers in Bell County,” said Zoeller.

Zoeller grew up in Boerne and attended Tarleton State University. He joined the Extension service in 1993 as an assistant county agent in Jim Wells County.

After two and a half years in Alice, Zoeller was reassigned to the Frio County Extension office in Pearsall, where he served until transferring to Gatesville in December 1996.

“We have accomplished a good bit here in Coryell County,” Zoeller said, citing programs to help new landowners, large and small, learn the latest agricultural technology.

The county’s 4-H program was also quite successful, he said.

His duties in Bell County will be similar to those in Coryell County, he said. In addition to agricultural programs, he will also work with community and economic development projects.

Zoeller and his family will maintain their Gatesville residence, and he will commute to work in Belton.

Zoeller’s wife, Dona, is a fifth-grade teacher in the Gatesville school system. Their two children attend Gatesville High School: daughter Callie is a senior and son Zach is a sophomore.

Zoeller’s successor at the Coryell County office has not been named. He said the position will be advertised internally after he leaves.

“I think there will be a good bit of interest in the job,” he said. “I have heard from people who have expressed an interest.”
