The City Council approved finalizing the sale of the land on which Copperas Cove Saddle Club operates, during Tuesday’s regular meeting.

The council approved the signing of a sales contract and completion of all closing documents with the highest bidder, Gary L. Vaughn, who bid $88,246 on the 15.744-acre parcel.

The council was nearly unanimous in its approval of the sale, with the only opposing vote coming from Councilman Kirby Lack.

“This item has been discussed many a time,” City Manager Andrea Gardner said.

The council identified idle and leased property to be sold in early 2016 and subsequently selected Jack Smith with Donlie McMullin Real Estate as the city’s broker to sell the designated property.

On Sept. 6, 2016, the council designated the property on Boys Ranch Road to be sold. The property was platted on Dec. 19, 2016.

Donlie McMullin Real Estate listed the property in December.

Smith received offers from potential buyers for the Boys Ranch Road property, and presented the offers to the council on March 21 and April 4. The council rejected all offers on April 4.

On May 2, the council took action to rescind the April 4 action, and directed Gardner to negotiate with the highest bidder for the property.

In other action Tuesday, the council recognized volunteers involved in the inaugural Spring Eco Fling.
