City Manager Andrea Gardner recognized three Copperas Cove staffers for serving on its Employee Activities Committee during the last year.

Kristopher Hurst, a firefighter and emergency medical technician; Joan Kelley, a solid waste clerk; and Silvia Rhoads, the city’s recycling coordinator, were all honored Tuesday in front of the City Council for their yearlong work on the activities committee.

“(Kelley) goes anywhere and does anything she is asked to do as long as it is not illegal,” Gardner said, noting the group’s commitment to the city.

The committee the three served on last year is a volunteer organization of city staff that “promotes department teamwork” by building and strengthening relations between city employees, said Kelli Sames, human resources director.

The group is responsible for coordinating and planning events for city staff and their families, such as holiday lunches, the staff’s Breakfast with Santa and summer events such as kickball games.
