A small shop front along U.S. Highway 190 displays a simple sign that reads “JT Sports.”

Inside, this busy gun shop, owned by Jean Tran, boasts more diverse weapons and accessories than anywhere in the area. With its knowledgeable staff, the shop may be the first stop for many gun owners in Cove.

“Business has been great,” said Tran, who has owned the shop for seven years. “Lots of people come in here regularly, and we get to know them really well.”

While JT Sports has only been around for seven years, the location has been a gun shop for far longer.

“Before we were here, this used to be Brock’s Gun Shop, and they were open for about 30 years,” Tran said. “When they went out of business, we bought the location and the furniture and just started our own place from scratch.”

JT Sports is able to serve a much wider range of clients because of foresight by Tran.

“We use many different distributors, and that really helps us have a lot of variety in what we carry. Lately though, it has been hard to keep our stock up since manufacturers are falling behind in production,” Tran said.

Business boomed for several months at JT Sports after the November presidential election. Only recently has it dropped back to normal sales for this time of year.

The shop is still busy, though.

“This is a great time for us right now, and we can only hope it continues,” Tran said.
