Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful is organizing a new yard competition for Halloween.

“We do the yard of the month and the Christmas decorating contest,” said Silvia Rhoads, KCCB executive director. “Halloween is kind of different. Some people who decorate for Halloween go all out, and it is really interesting to see their displays.”

The competition will recognize the best spooktacular-decorated yards nominated by neighbors, friends and property owners. KCCB board members will review all nominations and then present first through third places with yards signs, displayed pictures and certificates. An honorable mention also will get a certificate.

There should be plenty of nominations to choose from, said Liz Sherman, KCCB president.

Rhoads said members of the non-profit beautification organization have noticed several people setting out Halloween displays in previous years.

“I think most people that decorate for Halloween and other holidays do it because they enjoy it,” Sherman said. “They take pride in their house looking a certain way.”

Taking pride in property and keeping the city looking great is what KCCB is all about, Rhoads said.

Sherman said the Christmas decorating competition has been a big success since it started.

Organizers hope the Halloween decorating competition will be the same while adding some friendly challenges between neighbors.

“We are all about the beautification and anytime we can draw attention to something beautiful in Copperas Cove we want to do it,” Rhoads said.
