GATESVILLE — The Coryell County Republican Party annual fish fry fundraiser is expected to draw several Republican legislators to the Gatesville Civic Center on Aug. 24.

“This will be our seventh year,” said Ed Thompson said, former chairman of the county Republican Party. “It is primarily a fundraiser for the party, but it is also an opportunity for candidates of state and county office to get better acquainted and speak to the voters.”

Congressional District 25 U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, will be the keynote speaker.

State House District 59 Rep. J.D. Sheffield, R-Gatesville, is expected to provide a brief update on the Texas 83rd legislative session.

After the two talk, other Republican officeholders and candidates for the upcoming elections will be allowed to address those in attendance.

A tentative list of officeholders planning to attend include 10th Court of Appeals Judge Rex Davis.

Candidates planning to attend include Tom Pauken, who is running for governor; Secretary of Agriculture Todd Staples, running for lieutenant governor; Eric Opiela, running for secretary of agriculture; David Watts, running for land commissioner; and Danny Pelton, who is challenging Sheffield for the District 59 seat.
