While rain kept many from participating in the Volksmarch for child abuse prevention Saturday, it did not prevent students from four high school clubs from volunteering.

Eighteen members of Copperas Cove Junior ROTC, Copperas Cove High School Copperettes and cheerleaders and the Lampasas High School band manned stations along the 5K route with Noon Exchange Club members serving as chaperones.

After the walk, volunteers and participants were treated to a traditional German meal.

An estimated $14,500 was raised by Volksmarch.

The funds will be distributed to local organizations, such as Families in Crisis, CASA, Hope Pregnancy Center, SMILE, Communities in Schools, Aware Central Texas and the Rainbow Room.

The groups will receive the donations during an officer installation dinner June 28.
