A motorcyclist was sent to the hospital Friday morning after a crash with Copperas Cove Independent School Bus on Stan Schlueter in Killeen.
The district and police are investigating the incident.
About 7:30 a.m., a 47-passenger school bus carrying two children turned left from Stan Schlueter Loop onto Shawn Drive when a motorcycle collided with the bus.
“It turned left in front (of the) motorcycle,” said Margaret Young, a spokeswoman for the Killeen Police Department.
The motorcyclist hit the rear of the bus, she said.
The crash laid the vehicle down and the motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Metroplex Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
District spokeswoman Olga Peña said the two student passengers on the bus were not injured and neither was the driver. The Copperas Cove bus was in Killeen making a routine trip for the two students who normally attend a class in the area, she said.
The bus driver was ticketed by Killeen police, Peña added.
Gary Elliot, the district’s director of transportation, said the district has yet to take any action against the driver.
“This is out the ordinary for this gentleman,” said Elliot, who added the driver had been driving for 10 to 12 years.
Each circumstance is different and the district takes action based on each circumstance, he said. But the district generally offers remedial training once an accident occurs.
