A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony marked the grand opening of a 5,000-square-foot AT&T retail store in the Five Hills shopping center last Friday.

Store manager Thomas Powell said he is excited about the location, which opened May 20.

“We have a lot of customers that are currently in the market in the surrounding areas that we will be able to service and provide that customer experience which is paramount,” he said. “It’s a comprehensive retail store with a one-stop shop experience.”

Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau President Betty Price, Cove Mayor Pro Tem Frank Seffrood, chamber members and AT&T representatives participated in the dedication.

“We that live here like to shop here, so we’re thrilled about this,” Price said.

Loyce Parks, area retail sales manager, used the grand opening as a platform to introduce the company’s new anti-texting and driving campaign “It Can Wait.”

The campaign attempts to educating people — especially teens — about the dangers of texting and driving, stated the campaign’s website. “The message is simple, yet vital: When it comes to texting and driving, it can wait.”

“Our goal is to save lives,” Parks said.
