Viewing of Council meetings

As the City of Copperas Cove transitions into the new council chambers in the Economic Development Corporation at 210 South First St., there has been a delay in the installation of TV cable. Until further notice, City Council workshops and regular meetings will not be televised live on the Government Access Channel (TWC Channel 10-10) All meetings will be rebroadcast on the Wednesday following the meeting at 10 a.m. Call Kevin Keller at 254-547-4221 or email kkeller@copperascovetx.gov.

Lunch and Learn

Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Lunch and Learn from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. June 13 at Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation, 210 South First St. Call 254-547-7874.

Music at the Gap

Boys & Girls Club of Copperas Cove will host Music at the Gap at 5 p.m. June 14 at OgleeTree Gap Park, 1878 Post Office Road. This is a fundraiser musical event with Holly Tucker of “The Voice,” Frankly Country, Renegade Redeemed, and the Gymkix Dancers. The costs is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-11; 5 and under are free. The price includes a barbecue meal for adults and hot dogs and chips for the kids. Just bring your lawn chairs. Tickets can be purchased at the Boys & Girls Club, Allstate Insurance and the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce.

VBS at Robertson Baptist

Robertson Avenue Baptist Church will host “Gangway to Galilee” Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 15-19. Children who have completed fourth through sixth grades may attend. Free meals from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. daily. The school will include music and age appropriate Bible study, games and crafts. Call 254-547-3155.

VBS at Kempner Oak Hills

Kempner Oak Hills Baptist Church will host its Vacation Bible School from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m., June 16-20 on the corner of Farm-to-Market 2657 and Boys Ranch Road. Call 254-547-5585.

Seamless Summer Feeding Program

Copperas Cove Independent School District sponsors the Seamless Summer Feeding Program. Free meals will be provided to children 18 years of age or younger at several schools. Adult meals also will be available at a cost of $2 for breakfast and $3.25 for lunch. Call 254-547-1227.

Car wash fundraiser for Rainbow Room

Amy’s Attic is hosting a car wash fundraiser to benefit the Rainbow Room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 14 next to CHOP, 930 W. U.S. Highway 190. The Rainbow Room is a nonprofit emergency resource center available to Coryell County CPS case workers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. Cub Scout Day Camp

Boy Scouts of America Leon Valley District, Longhorn Council’s annual Cub Scout Day Camp at the Central Texas College campus for all registered Cub Scouts and American Heritage Girls, first through fifth grades, is Monday through Friday from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $85. The theme for this year’s day camp is “Knights of the Round Table.” On Monday, the safety brief and opening remarks will be at 2 p.m. The Cub Scout Day Camp is behind the CTC physical fitness center. Board of Adjustments

The city of Copperas Cove is accepting applications to fill four positions on the Board of Adjustments. The position is a two-year appointment. The purpose of the board is to serve as an appeal body for individuals seeking variances to the Zoning Ordinance or to a decision made by an administrative official enforcing the ordinance. Planning and Zoning Commission

The city of Copperas Cove is accepting applications to fill two positions on the Planning and Zoning Commission. This position is a three-year appointment. The purpose of the commission is to review and consider submitted site plans and plats, as well as make recommendations to City Council on zoning ordinance amendments, comprehensive plan amendments, specific use permits, and rezoning requests. Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone

The City of Copperas Cove is accepting applications to fill one position on the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1 Board. This position is a two year term. The purpose of the board is to make recommendations to the city council concerning the administration of the TIRZ. The Board of Directors recommend project plans and financing plans for the Zone as described in Section 311.011, Texas Tax Code. M.I.M.E.S. Fire Camp

The Copperas Cove Fire Department is seeking young volunteers to attend the annual Mentoring Industrious Minds & Educating Students (M.I.M.E.S.) Fire Camp Aug. 4-8. The camp is open for registration to students entering the eighth grade only. There is no charge to participate and enrollment is limited so please apply by June 15. Summer Reading Program

The Copperas Cove Public Library will host a Summer Reading Program from June 17 thru July 31 in conjunction with Friends of the Library. Sign up begins on June 2 and is on-going and free. Children ages 1 to 11 may complete Reading Time Logs for rewards. Teen club programs are designed for young teens ages 11 to 16. Teens may enter weekly drawings. Summer Run to Fun

The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to the Summer Run to Fun 5K from 8 a.m. to noon June 21 at South Park, 2602 Dennis Drive. Call the Chamber at 254-547-7571.

Candidate forum

A candidate forum for the open Copperas Cove City Council place 5 position will be conducted at 6 p.m. June 24 at the Economic Development Corporation, 210 S. First St. This will be a “Cookies, Coffee and Candidates” event which will give each of the candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves and then will be followed by questions that will be presented to each candidate for their response. Anyone who desires to provide a question for consideration may do so before June 12. Not all questions will be used due to time constraints. Independence Day Picnic

Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans will hold their annual Independence Day Picnic on June 28 at the Copperas Cove Civic Center. They are currently seeking donations for the event. Call Jonathan Haywood at 254-681-8029.

Youth Advisory Council

The city of Copperas Cove is accepting applications to fill positions on the Youth Advisory Council. The purpose of the council is to define specific ways to address youth community issues and the development of activities and programs designed and promoted through the city and the Copperas Cove Independent School District. The council will also encourage and promote the education of youth regarding City government and the importance of youth input, participation and responsibility. The council consists of 20 youth members, one adult liaison, and one City Council liaison, appointed to two-year terms each. Eligible youth participants must be current Copperas Cove ISD students in grades 8-12 in good standing. To be eligible for the adult liaison position applicants must reside within the city of Copperas Cove. Applications will be accepted through June 30. Parks and Recreation Board

The city of Copperas Cove is accepting applications to fill two positions on the Parks and Recreation Board. The purpose of the board is to make recommendations to the City staff and City Council on various projects and topics pertaining to the Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation Department. The board consists of seven members and a City Council liaison, appointed to two-year terms each. Applications will be accepted through June 30 and can be picked up at 914 S. Economic Development Corporation

The city of Copperas Cove is accepting applications to fill a position on the Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. The purpose of the board is to direct and coordinate the broad-based Expansion of the City’s business tax base and promotes sustainable job growth, thereby continuously enhancing the quality of life for Copperas Cove residents. The board consists of five members appointed to three year terms each. Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month. Applications will be accepted through July 3 and can be picked up at 914 S. Main Street, Suite E or on the city website. Call Kevin Keller at 254-547-4221 or email kkeller@copperascovetx.gov.
