Fireworks prohibited within city limits

As Independence Day approaches, the city of Copperas Cove reminds citizens that Code Ordinance Article IV, Section 7-61, prohibits fireworks within the city limits. This ordinance will be strictly enforced by the fire department, police department and code compliance for the safety of all citizens. Residents outside of the city limits are encouraged to contact their county officials for information regarding fireworks and possible restrictions. City facilities closed July 4

In observance of Independence Day, all city facilities will be closed July 4 to include the Solid Waste Transfer Station. There will be no solid waste collection for residential or commercial customers. For more information, call City Hall at 254-547-4221 or Solid Waste at 254-547-4242.

Seamless Summer Feeding Program

Copperas Cove Independent School District sponsors the Seamless Summer Feeding Program will be closed this week for the Fourth of July holiday.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast

The Copperas Cove Community Wide Men’s Prayer Breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Crestview Christian Church, 2608 South Farm-to-Market 116. The men of the church prepare the breakfast. All men and their sons are invited. Prayer points begin at 8 a.m. and promptly end at 9 a.m. Call Ed Thompson at 254-290-1550 or 254-547-4881.

Independence Day Picnic

Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans will hold their annual Independence Day Picnic at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Copperas Cove Civic Center. Call Jonathan Haywood at 254-681-8029.

Temple VA Hospital visit

Military Order of the Cootie Pup Tent 13 and Auxiliary will make its fifth Sunday visit to the Temple VA Hospital at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Miss Heart of Freedom pageant

Central Texas Miss Heart of Freedom pageant to benefit Operation Phantom Support-Killeen will be at 2:30 p.m. July 5. The community is invited to enter or just support the event. The registration fee is $45 plus 15 nonperishable food items. Attire for the event is red, white and blue.

Band Boosters meeting

The Copperas Cove High School Band Boosters will hold the first meeting for the 2014-2015 school year at 7 p.m. July 7 at the high school.

Hills of Cove Junior Golf Camp

Copperas Cove will hold its Hills of Cove Junior Golf Camp twice this summer. The camp is committed to the development of youth ages 4-15 in the game of golf. Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each camp is limited to 20 members at a cost of $100 per person. Camp 1 will be conducted from July 8-17. Kids on the Block fundraiser

Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church will host a fundraiser for Kids on the Block-Central Texas, Inc. from 5 to 7 p.m. July 25 at 1602 S. Farm-to-Market 116, Copperas Cove. There will be a spaghetti dinner and Kids on the Block skit and Staying Out of Jeopardy Game. There also will be a silent auction.
