Police to host Tip-A-Cop event Wednesday at Applebee’s

Members of the Central Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee will host a Tip-A-Cop event from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Applebee’s restaurant at 2525 East Business U.S. Highway 190. Police officers from various Central Texas Law Enforcement Agencies will serve as wait staff during the event. Funds raised during the event will go to the Special Olympics Texas Program. Official 2016 Law Enforcement Torch Run T-shirts will be for sale at the event.

Golf association tourney Saturday

The Copperas Cove Golf Association is hosting a new tournament, the “70 and over Scramble,” on Saturday at the Hills of Cove Golf Course. Start time is 8 a.m.. Entry fee is $20. Sign-up and information are available at the Pro Shop. Call Ed Thompson at 254-290-1550.

Groups set Fall Festival for Oct. 15

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 and Auxiliary, along with the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent 13 and Auxiliary, will host a Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at 1506 Veterans Ave. This is an annual fundraiser for the children’s party, food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas, along with other auxiliary projects. Activities include a Halloween carnival, cake walk, eat lunch and an auction. The children’s carnival and cake walk is from 10 a.m. to noon. Costumes will be judged in children’s applicable age groups from 1 to 12 years of age at 10:30 a.m. Lunch is from 11 a.m. to noon. The auction is from noon to 2 p.m. There will be drawings for prizes during the auction purchased at tables from each organization. City looking for commission member

The city is accepting applications to fill a position on the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Commission. The advisory body consists of 15 members, appointed to three-year terms each, and meets monthly on the first Monday. Applications are available at 914 South Main St., Suite C, or at www.copperascovetx.gov under “Online Resources,” “Forms and Applications.” The position vacancy will be advertised through Oct. 1. Completed applications must be submitted to the office of the city secretary by 5 p.m. Oct. 11. For information, contact City Secretary Mariela Altott at maltott@copperascovetx.gov or 254-547-4221.
